Laser Therapy

What Is Laser Therapy

Laser therapy, also called photobiomodulation, is a non-invasive modality using light energy to reach target tissues. At Animal Urgent Care of Bentonville, we proudly use the Companion Animal Health Laser, an advanced therapeutic technology designed to reduce pain and inflammation, and accelerates healing by activating cellular responses.

Clinical Uses & Conditions Treated

This treatment works well for a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, including surgical wound healing, osteoarthritis, strains and sprains, dental pain, skin conditions, degenerative joint disease, and more. It’s effective both pre-surgery and after, and for supporting recovery from injuries.

Why It’s Beneficial

  • Treatments are quick (often just 1-10 minutes), safe, and comfortable for most pets.
  • Drug-free and often drug- or surgery-adjunct, offering relief with fewer side effects.
  • Clients often enjoy seeing their pet relax as symptoms of pain and discomfort begin to ease.

What to Expect During Laser Therapy Treatment

Therapeutic light is delivered to tissues via a laser device using species-specific, protocol-driven settings. The light penetrates the skin, interacts at a cellular level (mitochondrial activity), reduces inflammatory mediators, and improves blood flow and tissue regeneration. Proper wavelength, sufficient power, and minimizing barriers like reflection off skin or excessive absorption are important to maximize results.
