What is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound imaging, also known as sonography, is a non-invasive diagnostic technique that uses sound waves to produce real-time images of your pet’s internal organs and tissues. Unlike X-rays, ultrasound does not use radiation, making it safe for both pets and humans.
How Does Ultrasound Help Your Pet?
Ultrasound is a valuable tool for veterinarians to evaluate:
- Abdominal organs such as the liver, spleen, kidneys, and bladder
- Reproductive organs including the uterus and ovaries
- Cardiac function, assessing the heart’s structure and blood flow

What to Expect During an Ultrasound
During the ultrasound procedure, your pet will be comfortably positioned on a padded table. A small amount of gel will be applied to the skin over the area of interest to ensure optimal contact between the ultrasound probe and your pet’s body. The veterinarian will then gently move the probe over the area, capturing images in real-time.
